Mountain Citadel Band CD
Project Requirements
Hamilton-based Mountain Citadel Band of The Salvation Army looked to Quiet City Design to create the package design for its latest CD. The album title was taken from a classic brass band march “Salvation’s Song”, but the graphics were to be modern and inspiring.
The notes to be included in the booklet featured biographies of the soloists as well as program notes for each track.
The Process
Several design concepts were developed, but the soft focus illustration of a silhouetted cross was selected. Cool tones of blue and purple were blended with white light to create an ambient background for the sharp, clean title font. The same cover illustration was used throughout the package, cropping and aligning different ways to create variation within the theme.
The booklet was printed with colour on the outside, and grayscale inside. It was a saddle stitched 16-page booklet, printed on glossy 80lb stock.
Finished Results
The CD cover illustration stood out amongst other typical brass band CDs. Room was made in the booklet for large soloist photos by formatting the page with columns and accommodating page margins.
The cover art was exported into JPG and TIF format for the band’s self-generated web and print marketing material.
