Mary Kenedi – A Voice Not Stilled CD

Mary Kenedi CoverProject Description: Mary Kenedi, a world-class concert pianist, director of the North Toronto Institute of Music, and long-time client of Quiet City Design, needed a special design for her new CD, “A Voice Not Stilled”.

Requirements: Unlike her other recent abstract CD designs, Mary felt this disc needed a more romantic style. Capturing the mood and style of the rich and emotional music in a tangible and visual way was most important.

The package had to support lengthy program notes, biography information and credits.

A Voice Not Stilled booklet spreadsComponents: The original cover concept came from a much earlier fantasy illustration presented for another project several years ago. Using nature images, the cover is a representation of the title, where vibrant red calla lilies grow from an old, mossy stone in the sparse light of a dense forest.

While the insert booklet is 8 pages, costs were cut down in production by producing a single sheet, folded insert.  One side, containing the cover and back page, was printed in colour, and the inside panels were black and white.

The tray card used the same cover image, without the vivid lilies, and blurred to keep the text clear and in focus.  The disc label features the lilies in isolation, as if to put them in the hands of the listener.
